An American in Paris

Crepes
Today C and H and I all went to a crepe restaurant called "6 friends Cafe" were they make the most amazing crepes in the world!  We split five amongst the three of us. I love myself and I hate myself...but they were so good.
If you are not addicted to this yet, you should certainly start...I think I got Ash addicted with honey pretzels dipped in nuttella at the beach!

Did you know how crepes became popular?

In Paris and the South of France, crepes were essentially a dessert, served in fine restaurants, thanks to Henri Charpentier who in 1895 as a young man from the South of France, went to Monaco to work for the Café de Paris with his uncle, the famous chef Escoffier.

One evening , the Prince of Wales requested a crepe for dessert. Henri raced to the kitchen and prepared a crepe with an orange sauce flambé. He named it the Suzette in honor of the beautiful young lady who accompanied the Prince. The rest is history...the Crepe Suzette became the most celebrated French dessert.

Quote of the day:
C: "Someone from America is called an American, what is someone from France called?"
M:"A Francian"

Holiday Pet Peeve

Confession: Today I participated in one of my largest Pet Peeves...I bought Christmas items before Thanksgiving.
Vent: I do not understand what happened to the old way of Christmas. The excitement of waiting till after Thanksgiving to put your Christmas tree up, to listen to music, and how the shops all somehow magically come to life with Santa displays, elves in workshops, Nativities and Christmas carolers on street corners.  Now to be politically correct Santa and Nativities are extinct from Christmas displays, Christmas is not allowed to be used to appease the small sum of people who think it is wrong to extract "Christ" from "Christmas" and to make matters worse we are bombarded by Christmas displays the day after Halloween, so now instead of Christmas being a holiday, it is a season coming about the same time that cold weather hits and lasting till shops no longer think they can lure innocent customers in to buy items with large "holiday bows"
I mean I can tell you who I'm going to give my money to.

I would like to stop all the Scrooges in our country that are trying to take the spirit out of Christmas.  I think you need three ghosts to come visit you to show you the light!

Village of Shakers

.
Shaker village is one (of the many) popular historical sites around lexington.  This last weekend my husband and I decided to make it our photo shoot site...I know I know, it sounds so vain and to make matters worse we took 150 photos of nothing but ourselves.  For a good cause though, we are going to use one of the as a pictures as our Christmas photo (I hope)
This is the shaker tree of life, they had conflicting opinions as to what happened between adam and eve in the garden, among other things, what type of fruit they ate, as you can see they compramised with a tree that bears two kinds of fruit.  Was it the granny smith apple? or the Red delicious?

This was taken in the merry feilds were Im sure many a shaker child frolicked, played and toiled for food.

This was taken by the Shaker Inn were there is an amazing swing that we found, (Im determined to have one of these someday at my house someday...maybe even a couple).

Do we look as happy as the original shakers?

Arsenic and Old Lace

Who doesnt love to curl up on the couch with some carmel popcorn, apple cider, and candy corn with peanuts and watch a good scary movie during Halloween season.  Well since I swore away horror movies a few years ago I have gone to the "classic" scary movies.  My favorite for Halloween is arsenic and old lace. Who could resist a young cary grant, in a romantic/ scary movie?  If you like old movies, this is a must see!

Cary Grant in his younger acting days

They certainly don't make movies like this anymore!  (and truthfully, it is kinda scary)

My absolute favorite fall dessert.  So yummy, I made this last night for my sister and brother in law.

PUMPKIN CRISP
1 lg. can pumpkin or 3 c.
1 lg. can evaporated milk
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3 eggs
1 box yellow cake mix
1 c. nuts, chopped
2 sticks butter, melted

Mix together pumpkin, milk, sugar, cinnamon and eggs in a large bowl (add clove or nutmeg if you like). Pour into a pan. Pour dry cake mix over top of mix. Sprinkle nuts over mix evenly.  Carefully pour melted butter over top of cake mix, distributing evenly.  Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes.
I like to serve this with whip cream made from my whipper (heavy whipping cream and a little honey).
